Hearts mourn death of legend Conn

Hearts are mourning the death of former star striker Alfie Conn (Snr), who has died at the age of 82.

Conn spent 14 years at the Edinburgh club, where he formed the celebrated 'Terrible Trio' forward line with Willie Bauld and Jimmy Wardhaugh.

He scored the third goal in a 3-1 win over Celtic in 1956 Scottish Cup final and averaged more than a goal every second game in his 408 appearances.

Hearts players will wear black armbands at Motherwell on Wednesday.

And there is likely to be a fulsome tribute to Conn when Hearts next play at home, which is scheduled to be against Inverness on 24 January.

Former Hearts great Dave Mackay told the Hearts website: "Alfie was one of my heroes.

Freddie Glidden, a team-mate of Conn's added: "Alfie was a special talent, very strong with a great shot and was also a good laugh in the dressing room."
