Hearts players wait for bonuses

Hearts FC

Hearts players are still waiting on bonus payments after having on Monday received their wages four days late.

Win bonuses from the last four matches - against Rangers, Inverness Caley Thistle, Hamilton Accies and Falkirk - have yet to be received.

Each Hearts player is paid about £1,000 for a win by the Edinburgh club.

Wages due to be paid on Friday did not reach player bank accounts until Monday, while appearance money payments are also now up to date.

The players receive weekly payments from the club's parent company, Ukio Bankas Investment Group, which is owned by Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov.

Players would normally have been paid on Friday but were told they must wait until Monday.

A UBIG spokeswoman was unable to explain why the transactions had not gone through on Friday.

On Saturday, prior to the 2-1 victory over Rangers in the Scottish Premier League, the club had confirmed that wage payments had been delayed for the second time this season.

But, when asked why the Hearts players were not paid their wages on Friday, UBIG spokeswoman Jurga Chomskyte-McGeever told BBC Sport on Monday: "I have no idea."

Players and staff found themselves in a similar position in September, when they had to wait almost a week to be paid.

On that occasion, the Tynecastle club blamed the problem on a technical hitch, but no reason has been given for the latest delay.
