Driver signs Tynecastle extension

Andrew Driver

Hearts winger Andrew Driver has signed an extension to his contract that will keep him at Tynecastle until 2013.

The 20-year-old returned from the club's pre-season tour of Germany and signed a new five-year deal.

Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo had stated he was keen to retain the services of the Oldham-born player, despite interest from Burnley FC.

"This is very good news, we want all our very good young players to remain at the club," said Laszlo.

Driver moved to Scotland from Oldham when he was 11 and worked his way through the Hearts youth academy system.

"It is all about improvement now. I can settle down and not worry about anything else."

Speaking on the Hearts website, he said he was happy to put an end to the speculation over his future and was eager to get started with the new season.

"We've been negotiating for a while and now I just want to get on the pitch and show the people who had faith in me that I am worth it," said Driver.

"Hopefully it shows I am doing something right.

"It is all about improvement now. I can settle down and not worry about anything else.

"It takes out the transfer rumours and now I can concentrate 100% on improving my game and giving 100% for Hearts."
