Obua delight at Hearts transfer

David Obua with Hearts manager Laszlo Csaba

Uganda defender David Obua has finally signed for Hearts - two weeks after being granted a work permit.

The 24-year-old left-back, who can also operate in midfield, recently left South African outfit Kaizer Chiefs.

Obua, capped 30 times, is already well known to Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo during his time as Uganda's head coach.

"I'm happy to be back after a long wait," Obua told the club's website. "The club did a lot to get me here and fought hard to get my work permit."

Obua said he was eager to impress the Hearts fans when he makes his debut.

What do Hearts fans think of their new signing?

"I cannot wait to meet the fans and to go on the pitch with my team-mates," the defender said.

"In each game I am going to play there will be a lot of pressure but I am ready and here to work and if I am selected to play on Saturday then I am going to be there and in the thick of things."

Laszlo said he was pleased to be reunited with a player he helped develop during his time as manager of the Ugandan national team.

"David trained yesterday and today," he said. "He is over his injury and will be soon showing his talent for the team."

Obua started his career with Express in Uganda, and spent some time with Mauritian club AS Port-Louis 2000, in addition to spells in the USA and South Africa.
