Hearts admit Schmeichel interest

Kasper Schmeichel Assistant coach Stephen Frail has said that Hearts are tracking Manchester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

When asked about the 21-year-old Dane, Frail said: "I heard about that yesterday but I don't know how far down the line it has gone.

"That's a manager's job or chief executive or owner's job. Whoever comes in then we just get on with it."

Schmeichel impressed on loan at Falkirk last season but has featured in City's pre-season matches.

Any new keeper arriving at Tynecastle would revive speculation about Scotland star Craig Gordon moving on.

Sunderland have had an offer for Gordon turned down, while Aston Villa have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old.

However, Frail added: "We are not resigned to losing Craig.

"Eduardas Kurskis has had an injury so ultimately we only have Craig and Steven Banks.

"So it might just be a case of looking at the Kurskis thing and thinking we need to bring in someone to work alongside Craig and Steven Banks, because Jamie McDonald is on loan at Queen of the South."

Frail also confirmed that current understudy to Gordon, Stevie Banks would be his preferred choice to replace Jim Stewart as the goalkeeping coach at the club.

Stewart left Tynecastle earlier this week to join up once again with Rangers.
