Matthaus confirms Hearts interest
Former Germany captain Lothar Matthaus has confirmed that he would like to be considered as a successor to Graham Rix as Hearts head coach.
But the 45-year-old, currently out of football after a brief spell as coach of Brazilian club Atletico Paranaense, will not pursue owner Vladimir Romanov.
"Hearts is a good club," told BBC Sport. "I follow Scottish football and have been impressed with Hearts.
"I will push nothing from here, but I would welcome a chat with Mr Romanov."
Matthaus has twice been considered for the job, but Rix and, before him, George Burley have both been sacked this season after being chosen ahead of the German.
The former Hungary coach says he has had no fresh contact with Hearts but confirmed earlier comments by his agent that he sees potential at the Edinburgh club.
"I feel they could now end Celtic and Rangers dominance of the game in Scotland," he said.
Hearts have placed former Kaunas coach Valdas Ivanauskas in temporary charge until the end of the season.
