Everton lose Anichebe to Olympics

Victor Anichebe

Everton face being without Victor Anichebe in August after he was called up to the Nigerian Olympic squad.

The striker is in a 26-man provisional squad and will leave for a training camp in South Korea on Tuesday.

There the squad will be whittled down to the 22 that will compete in the Games at Beijing, with Nigeria's first match against Netherlands on 7 August.

If Nigeria make the final on 23 August, Anichebe could miss the first two games of the new Premier League season.

Anichebe played his first game for Nigeria in March and scored on his debut to help them reach the Olympics with a 3-0 win over South Africa.

The 20-year-old hit five goals in 41 appearances last season for Everton.
