We have over-performed - Wyness

Keith Wyness

Everton chief executive Keith Wyness believes the club have over-performed in recent seasons under David Moyes.

The Blues finished fifth in the Premier League last season, qualified for the UEFA Cup for the second year in a row and reached a Carling Cup semi-final.

Wyness told BBC Radio Merseyside: "We've over performed the last few years, certainly in terms of the budget we've had.

"It'll get harder and harder, but we are going to do our best to compete."

The summer transfer window opens on 1 July and Wyness has stressed that the club will continue to back David Moyes.

"Since I've been here we've broken the transfer record three times.

"We know that we've got something here that is good and is moving forward. We are not going to let that slip away."

Wyness added that he would like to conduct any transfer business swiftly.

"We would always like to get players in before pre-season, to give them a chance to gel and meet their team-mates," he said.

"That's always the target, but it doesn't always work out like that, so you do your best and I'm afraid things often change on a minute-by-minute basis in the summer."
