Everton manager David Moyes is to sue over comments made in Wayne Rooney's recent book.
Moyes has issued a writ against Associated Newspapers after the Daily Mail serialised the 20-year-old's autobiography, My Story So Far.
He may also sue Rooney after he accused him of forcing him out of Everton.
Moyes' lawyer Mel Goldberg told BBC Radio Five Live Breakfast: "There are a couple of comments. I think the main one is 'Moyes forced me out'."
Goldberg said: "A writ has been issued against Associated Newspapers, for the Daily Mail and its editor.
"It refers to an article on 25 July, and Wayne Rooney is the subject matter.
"At this stage, no proceedings have been issued against Wayne Rooney, for various reasons - the book has got to be fully read and David Moyes has to consider whether that is something he wants to do.
"If he does choose to go down that route, then the publisher Harper Collins would be named on the writ and probably Wayne Rooney as well."
A spokesman for Rooney said: "Neither Wayne Rooney, his management team nor his publisher has received any communication from David Moyes and we are therefore unable to make any comment whatsoever."
A spokeswoman for Harper Collins said: "We have received no communication from David Moyes or his solicitors, so cannot comment." Associated Newspapers has not yet made any comment.
