Jewell promises drastic changes

Paul Jewell

Derby County boss Paul Jewell says he has no option but to make wholesale changes to the squad in the summer.

The Rams bowed out of the Premier League with a whimper following the 4-0 home loss against Reading on Saturday.

And Jewell told BBC Radio Derby that many of the players are out of their depth: "I'm sick and tired of it. We make mistake after mistake.

"The large majority of the players - even some of the ones I've brought in - don't seem to be good enough."

Derby are officially the worst side in Premier League history, having collected just 11 points from 38 games - four fewer than Sunderland who held the previous record.

Their only victory came against Newcastle - a 1-0 home success in September.

But Jewell, who took over at Pride Park following Billy Davies' exit in November, is confident next season will be a different story.

"Is there anybody in the current squad who Derby fans want to still be at our club come next season?"

He added: "The team that starts next season will hopefully bear no resemblance to that one that started here.

"We need a new team to give those supporters something to shout about."
