Set-piece quality is key - Penney

Darlington manager Dave Penney has said their proficiency from set-pieces has been a major factor in their run of four win in six games.

Deliveries from the deadball have accounted for more than half of the 10 goals from those six outings and Penney is delighted to see hard work pay off.

"We've worked on them and we've had great deliveries from Franz [Burgmeier] and Rob [Purdie]," he told BBC Tees.

"It gives the other players more belief there's a good ball coming in."

One player who has profited from the quality of the free-kicks and corners at Darlington is on-loan Peterborough United striker Liam Hatch, who took his tally for the Quakers to four goals in Saturday's home victory against Dagenham.

And Penney admitted the former Barnet forward's presence has added a new dimension to his side's attacking options since the departure of Tommy Wright to Aberdeen.

"He's a big target man, in the same mould as Tommy Wright but I think he's taller than Tommy so he has more chance of winning headers," he said.

"Liam is more of a threat in the air and along with Billy Clarke we've got a good combination."
