Clyde appoint Watt to their board

Neil Watt

Clyde have appointed former Ayr United and Stranraer manager Neil Watt as their new director of football.

Chairman Ian Letham told Clyde's website: "His business acumen as well as his experience in football will be of great benefit to Clyde."

Clyde were relegated from Division One last season and were forced to release most of their squad after coming close to going into administration.

Watt's commitments mean he will not take up the role until August.

"Having a short break from the game has been beneficial for me and I am full of energy and enthusiasm to take on this new challenge," he said.

"The role of director of football is very often confusing and undefined to football supporters and I hope to bring clarity to the position once I have my feet under the table and have integrated with the club and the board."

Watt led Stranraer to the Third Division title in 2004 and won promotion the next season before resigning after their immediate relegation back to Division Two.

He was appointed manager of Ayr in March 2007 but resigned seven months later after a disappointing start to their Division Two campaign.
