Chester aim to strengthen defence
Chester City have handed a trial to Chorley-born defender Simon Grand.
The 24-year-old is on a week-to-week contract at non-league Northwich Victoria after being released by Morecambe in June.
Grand impressed City's coaching staff in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Wrexham last Tuesday.
City chief executive Bob Gray told BBC Radio Merseyside: "Despite our recent successful run of results, we know where we have to strengthen."
Chester have also invited goalkeeper Alex Bentley to train with the first-team squad.
City only have one senior goalkeeper on their payroll and manager Simon Davies is keen to find competition for John Danby.
Bentley, 20, has previously had spells with Mansfield and Shrewsbury.
