Downing hopeful of Vincent deal

Ashley Vincent

Cheltenham Town manager Keith Downing says Ashley Vincent has indicated that he wants to stay at Whaddon Road.

The 23-year-old forward is the only remaining out-of-contract Robins player still to sign the deal offered to him.

Downing told BBC Radio Gloucestershire that the former Wolves youngster has the chance to secure a striking place this season.

"I've listened to what he wants to do in terms of playing up-front. The challenge is there for Ash," he said.

Downing says that even if Vincent puts pen to paper he will still be looking to add to his attacking options after the collapse of his attempts to sign Michael and Rory Boulding.

"It's the front part of the team that needs help. He [Vincent] knows I'm looking to strengthen, so he's aware that people are trying to take his position," said Downing.

Vincent, who has previously played as a winger, made 37 appearances for the Robins last season, although almost half that tally were from the substitutes' bench.
