Charlton snub Cardiff's Bent bid

Charlton Athletic have rejected a bid from Championship rivals Cardiff City for striker Marcus Bent.

Addicks manager Alan Pardew confirmed that the Bluebirds have not met their valuation for the 30-year-old.

"We have had a bid from Cardiff City, which we have rejected," Pardew told the Kent Messenger.

"There is interest from other clubs in Marcus, so if Cardiff want to remain in the hunt for his services they will have to come in with a stronger bid."

Everton sold Bent to Charlton in January 2006 for £2.5m, with the Addicks being relegated from the Premiership at the end of the next season.

The following season Bent managed only two goals from 22 starts and 13 substitute appearances but was still wanted last season on loan by Wigan.

A better return of seven goals in 32 games helped keep Steve Bruce's side in the top flight but Bent remains surplus to requirements at the Valley having returned from his spell at Wigan.

Cardiff are thought to have bid somewhere in the region of £1m, but Charlton value Bent nearer the £2m mark.

"At the moment Marcus is our player until someone comes in with an offer that meets with our valuation," added Pardew.
