Sodje could miss rest of season

Sam Sodje

Charlton defender Sam Sodje could be out for the season after he was injured during Saturday's 2-1 win at Plymouth.

The 28-year-old, who has been on loan from Reading since August, was forced to come off after 36 minutes.

Addicks boss Alan Pardew told BBC London 94.9: "We think he broke his toe and did some ligament damage so he will be struggling to play this campaign."

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Darren Randolph is to return from his loan at Bury to cover for the suspended Nicky Weaver.

Weaver was sent off after just three minutes against Argyle.

Rob Elliot was brought on to replace him between the sticks and could keep his place against Southampton on Saturday.

Pardew revealed: "Without a doubt Darren will be called back, but whether he starts after Rob's display will be a tough call."

One piece of good news for Pardew was the return of Madjid Bougherra after two months out injured.

The Algerian defender came off the bench to replaced Sodje and is set to replace him from the start against the Saints.

"Madjid picked up from when he got injured," Pardew stated. "We have really missed him, he was terrific, so one door closes and one door opens - on that side of things we are lucky."
