Celtic striker rejects Turk move

Celtic striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink

Celtic striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink has rejected a transfer to Galatasaray despite the offer of a substantially increased salary.

The Dutchman decided against moving to the Turkish champions, who missed out on the Champions League group stages after defeat by Steau Bucaresti.

Galarasaray were also interested in Rangers forward Daniel Cousin.

However, that transfer appears unlikely now that former Liverpool striker Milan Baros has joined the Turkish side.

Vennegoor of Hesselink, 29, is understood to be happy and settled in Glasgow, having been with Celtic since 2006.

The Netherlands international joined Gordon Strachan's side from PSV Eindhoven for £3.4m and has scored 38 goals in the last two seasons, helping Celtic retain the Scottish Premier League title and into the last 16 of the Champions League on two successive occasions.

Cousin saw a move to Fulham collapse earlier this year and has been linked with a move away from Ibrox this summer.

The 31-year-old has only featured once for the Ibrox side this season, as a substitute in the 1-0 win over Falkirk.
