Strachan plays down keeper claim

Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has played down speculation that Czech goalkeeper Michal Danek is arriving at Celtic Park for talks next week.

"That's one from left field," he said after Danek's claim in a Czech paper. "I don't know anything about it."

The 24-year-old, presently with Viktoria Plzen, has also been linked with Norwich City and AEK Athens.

"But the interest of Celtic is the greatest," Danek told Czech newspaper Sport. "It is a great club."

Danek is already keen on the transfer.

"If this was possible, I would certainly not refuse it," he said.

"Next week, I am going to visit the club. I am going to fly there to see how it looks."

Artur Boruc is currently the first-choice goalkeeper at Celtic, but there has been renewed speculation linking the Poland international with clubs in England.

MY SPORT: DEBATE

Viktoria Plzen chairman Ladislav Valasek stressed that Celtic have not made a bid for Danek, who has conceded just one goal in the first three matches of the Czech season.

"Danek is in excellent form, he is a mature keeper and the Czech goalkeeping school has a good name in United Kingdom," said Valasek.

"But we have not received any official offer yet, though we have heard about their interest."
