Boruc named player of the month

Artur Boruc Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc has been named player of the month for December in the Scottish Premier League.

The 26-year-old won his Bank of Scotland award after helping the Glasgow club to a six-game unbeaten month domestically.

But Celtic boss Gordon Strachan said: "We're disappointed having a goalie who is player of the month.

"We're disappointed that we gave him as much work as he's had to do, but we're happy that we've got a top goalkeeper."

Celtic's only setback during December was a 3-1 Champions League defeat by Copenhagen.

Boruc had two clean sheets and has followed that up by not conceding a goal in the league leaders' opening two games of January.

"I'm just looking forward to being a better goalkeeper"

The Poland international thinks he is at the top of his form, saying: "It probably is, but I can do better.

"I'm just looking forward to being a better goalkeeper, but it is good when your form is recognised by others."

Boruc expressed sympathy for understudy David Marshall, who could be on his way to Norwich on loan.

"He's a good team-mate and good guy, but he's a good goalkeeper first of all," he said.

"It's really tough for him because he's been sitting on the bench for almost two seasons now.

"It's got to be much better if you have a few games, but it's up to the manager what's going to happen to him." Falkirk's John Hughes had already been named manager of the month, while defender Darren Barr was top young player during a good month for the Bairns.
