Carlisle complete Robson signing

Matty Robson

Carlisle United have signed winger Matty Robson from League One rivals Hartlepool United.

Robson, 24, has agreed a two-year deal with the Cumbrians after rejecting a new contract at Victoria Park.

Matt comes with pace and energy and is an important part of the jigsaw," boss Greg Abbott told the Carlisle website.

"He is a genuine left-sided player who will play a big part and I'm looking forward to working with him for the next couple of years."

The Durham-born player joined Hartlepool as a trainee and made over 150 appearances for the club, scoring ten times in seven seasons.

Robson, who had also attracted the interest of former manager Danny Wilson at Swindon Town, becomes the Cumbrians' third summer signing following the additions of defender Ian Harte and goalkeeper Adam Collin.

Abbott has already confirmed he is lining-up a replacement for current number one Ben Williams should the former Crewe man complete a move to League One rivals Colchester United.

" What do you think of the signing of Matty Robson? "

The Cumbrians have given permission for Williams to begin talks with the Essex club this week as U's boss Paul Lambert looks to bring a new goalkeeper to the club.

Striker Danny Graham, meanwhile, looks set to join Championship side Watford after reportedly agreeing terms with the Hornets.

Graham, 23, scored 40 goals in just over 100 appearances for United since joining from Middlesbrough in 2007 but turned down the offer of a new deal at Brunton Park this summer.

Carlisle will expect a fee to be set by tribunal for Graham as the player is under the age of 24.
