Ledley ready to shoot down Swans

Cardiff City star Joe Ledley hopes for a derby double against Swansea City in his 200th league start on Saturday.

The Wales midfielder does not just hope to inspire his home-town team to glory but break his goal duck this season.

The 22-year-old scored in last term's corresponding Liberty Stadium league fixture and hopes for a repeat.

"Swansea, being a Cardiff boy, is one of the fixtures you look out for and I hope to get off the mark and score against Swansea," said Ledley.

The Bluebirds academy graduate is one of just a select few of local players to play in Saturday's all-Wales Championship clash.

Ledley will be the only Cardiff-born player in Dave Jones' side while Cardiff's teenage right-back Adam Matthews will face his home-town club and the side that rejected him as a youngster.

Ledley's Welsh international team-mate Joe Allen is set to be the only local player in Paulo Sousa's cosmopolitan Swansea side for Saturday's lunchtime kick-off.

"I'm looking forward to it," said Ledley

"We want to go there, get the points and get out of there," Ledley told BBC Sport Wales.

Cardiff fan Ledley will be a major target for the Liberty Stadium boo boys but the 31-times capped Welshman insists he has learned from his previous derby misdemeanours.

He was cautioned in the opening minutes of last season's Carling Cup derby that Swansea went on to win 1-0 thanks to Jordi Gomez's strike.

And he recalled: "I got booked early on in the derby but I learned my mistakes - as I went back there last time, scored the goal and didn't give the ball away once."

Ledley scored a cracker in last season's league fixture at the Liberty when the two rivals fought out a 2-2 draw - and it was a similar story and score-line in the final derby at Ninian Park.

Cardiff have won just once at Swansea in 20 years - winning only five times in 29 visits to their nearest neighbours - but the third-placed Bluebirds are on a six-game unbeaten run.

Swansea, though, have the best unbeaten run in the Championship and as well as going nine games without a defeat, boast the second meanest defence in the division behind leaders Newcastle United and have nine clean sheets in 15 league games this season.

The Swans have not conceded a goal for almost five hours of football but Ledley hopes to break down their back line, and admits he "needs to get among the goals".

"It is a great derby to play in," Ledley told BBC Sport.

"We must focus on the game, players must not make silly tackles and don't get needless bookings."
