Cardiff boss confirms Toshack row

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has confirmed to BBC Sport Wales there was a face-to-face disagreement between himself and Wales boss John Toshack.

The spat concerned the retirement of Paul Parry from international football.

"We had a disagreement and as far as I'm concerned it's done and dusted now, it's over," Jones said.

"We didn't finish on the best of terms but is that going to stop either of us from speaking? We're both bigger people than that."

Jones had previously said that Parry, 28, had been "vilified and crucified" for his decision to retire from international duty two days before Wales' 2-1 loss to Russia in Moscow, a match that he would have started.

A statement of support for Parry, published on the Cardiff website on the day of the Russia game, is believed to have angered Toshack.

That saw the two managers meet and hard words were exchanged, but Jones says that what passed between them will have no bearing on their future professional dealings.

"It doesn't effect my decision-making and what we do here and it won't effect John's with Wales," Jones added.

"When the international games come up John will pick the players at this football club he wants, there isn't a problem with it.

"It will not, as far as I'm concerned, and should not effect any decisions in the future of players going from here to play for Wales or any other country.

"It was a strong exchange of views and cross words were said"
FAW press officer Ceri Stennett

"It should not effect John in picking any player here if he feels he's right to play for Wales.

"I'm backing Paul Parry playing for Cardiff; whether I agree with what he did or disagree with what he did, it does not effect my stance with what he does for Cardiff."

Football Association of Wales press officer Ceri Stennett confirmed: "There was a meeting and a frank discussion between the two managers.

"It was a strong exchange of views and cross words were said.

"These things happen in football, but neither John Toshack nor the Football Association of Wales want to fall out with Cardiff City.

"This was a difference of opinion between two men."
