Enckelman wants Cardiff 'heroes'

Peter Enckelman

Peter Enckelman has called on his Cardiff team-mates to make themselves FA Cup heroes when they face Barnsley in Sunday's semi-final at Wembley.

The goalkeeper, on loan from Blackburn, says this side can emulate Cardiff's famous 1927 FA Cup-winning team.

Portsmouth await the winners after they beat West Brom 1-0 in Saturday's semi.

"They will be remembered that they were with the team that got to the final of the Cup for the first time in 81 years. That's the aim," Enckelman said.

"It gives everyone the opportunity to get noticed and make history - especially in the history of Cardiff, for the fans, for everyone involved on Sunday.

"The City are coming,
Thirty thousand and more,
A convoy of Bluebirds
Along the M4."

"We're not going there just for the occasion. We're playing Barnsley - both teams are in the Championship, both teams have got an equal chance of winning the game.

"We've got to make sure that we do our utmost, that we're at our best and play our own game."

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink seems set to lead the Cardiff attack on his return from a three-match suspension.

But there is some doubt as to who manager Dave Jones will select to be the Dutchman's strike partner.

Steve Thompson and Paul Parry both suffered hamstring injuries in Tuesday night's league draw with West Brom.

Wales international Parry would be the preferred option but is rated at only 50-50 to recover in time and will have a late fitness test on Sunday morning.

Scotland striker Thompson seems set to overcome his injury problem though, although Jones could opt to pair Trevor Sinclair - a regular frontman during his time at Queens Park Rangers - with fellow veteran Hasselbaink.

Barnsley have their own injury problems and are without Stephen Foster and Wales cap Daniel Nardiello, while Jon Macken is cup-tied.
