Cardiff defender Chris Gunter won the Football League's Apprentice of the Year award at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London on Sunday.
The 17-year-old Wales Under-21 star from Newport has broken into the Bluebirds' first team this season.
"He fully deserve it, it was a big night for him," Cardiff manager Dave Jones told BBC Sport Wales.
Cardiff and Wales midfielder Joe Ledley won the goal of the year award for his strike against Barnsley.
The Bluebirds also won an award for best use of new media and were nominated for best matchday programme.
Wales' ex-Cardiff midfielder Jason Koumas won the Championship player of the year prize, with national team-mate Gareth Bale third.
Seventeen-year-old Southampton defender Bale also took the award as the league's best young player.
"Chris is made to go all the way to the top"
Gunter receives the award won by Wales defender Lewin Nyatanga last year, and his manager Jones believes that it is a credit to the work put in at Cardiff's academy.
"Chris is made to go all the way to the top, he's a great athlete who has good pace, delivery and passing skills," Jones told BBC Sport Wales.
"He needs to learn the game by playing more this year, then kicking on again next season.
"He's one of a number of youngsters coming through, there are a lot of really good kids on the club's books.
"I have to give so much praise to my academy staff. We want to bring on the best youngsters, in Wales and outside, and that's only possible by setting up a good academy."
