Cambridge boss targets more men

Gary Brabin

Cambridge United boss Gary Brabin has said more signings are imminent as he builds his squad for next season.

Since taking over at the Abbey Stadium in June, Brabin has added winger Andy Parkinson and defender Anthony Tonkin to his squad.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I'm expecting the floodgates to open in terms of signings in the next 10 days or two weeks.

"We've got a few targets but it's a bit of a waiting game at the moment."

The U's boss admitted another goalkeeper was one of his priorities as back-up for goalkeeper Danny Potter.

He said: "It would help Danny if we got another keeper to compete with him but at the moment he doesn't need pushing.

"There's a couple of areas I do want to strengthen and one of them is a bit of competition for the number one jersey."

He insisted it was important that Cambridge did not rush in to making new signings, and said: "We've identified a few players who we are monitoring and speaking to."

But he added: "We're being patient in seeing what we can get in.

"It becomes a bidding war once a player become available but we don't want to be involved in that.

"I want players who are hungry, want to further their careers and want to come to Cambridge United and be a part of what's going on here."
