Brabin warns U's to stay focused

Cambridge United boss Gary Brabin has warned his side against losing their focus following Saturday's 4-2 friendly win over Everton.

Two goals from Andy Parkinson and one each from Robbie Wilmott and Mark Beesley secured Brabin his first win as United boss.

And he told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It was nice to get our first win against a Premiership side.

"I just hope we all don't get carried away, we've got to keep focused."

Everton brought a side packed full of first-team stars to the Abbey as part of the deal which saw goalkeeper John Ruddy join the Toffees back in 2005.

Ruddy played against his former side, with England internationals Joleon Lescott, Phil Jagielka and Andy Johnson all on the pitch as well.

But it was the U's who claimed the spoils with a memorable win in front of over 4,000 fans.

Brabin added: "They [Everton] will be disappointed, I know David Moyes is a little bit like me and he wouldn't want to get beaten."

The U's started the match with arguably their strongest eleven, although striker Lee McEvilly was withdrawn early as a precaution.

Brabin looks set to start the season playing 4-4-2 but he said he will be looking for flexibility from his side.

"I'm not one dimensional, I like to attack, I like to try and play football but at the same time we need to do the other stuff as well."

Cambridge kick off their league campaign away at Northwich Victoria on 9 August.
