Burton would allow Clough to go

Burton Albion chairman Ben Robinson has said he would not stand in boss Nigel Clough's way if he was offered the manager's job at Derby County.

Clough has been linked to the Rams vacancy after manager Paul Jewell left the club on Monday.

Robinson told BBC Radio Derby: "I don't want him to go but I'm a realist.

"If he's asked to go to Derby or anywhere else and he wants to take it then he'll go with my blessing and my best wishes."

Robinson added: "Whenever a big job arises... because of the past association with the Clough family there's going to be speculation.

"Nigel Clough has been a fantastic manager at our club - the most successful manager in the club's history.

"He's given us 10 loyal years, tremendous success and taken us onto another planet."

Clough was named the Blue Square Premier's manager of the month for December.

Burton are 13 points clear at the top of the league after a 3-1 win over York on New Year's Day.
