Coyle still to make Cole decision

Andrew Cole

Burnley manager Owen Coyle has refused to reveal whether former England striker Andrew Cole will be offered a permanent contract at Turf Moor.

The 36-year-old, whose loan deal from Sunderland runs out at the end of the season, has admitted he will weigh up his options in the summer.

"We've two games to go and then we'll take stock accordingly," Coyle told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"He has shown when he's fit what he brings to any football team."

"I think having looked at Andrew he would enjoy playing again"

The Nottingham-born player, who has made over career 600 appearances for clubs including Manchester United, Blackburn and Newcastle, joined the Clarets during the January transfer window.

He has also won 15 international caps, his only goal coming in a World Cup qualifying game against Albania in March 2001.

Coyle feels he still has plenty to offer, whether it be at Turf Moor or elsewhere.

"I think having looked at Andrew he would enjoy playing again," he said. "He's loved every minute at the football club, albeit it's been a bit stop start with the niggle and Achilles injury, but I would envisage that he'd want to play on next season.

The Burnley boss also revealed he is still to make a final decision on who he wants to bring to the club and which out-of-contract players will leave Turf Moor.

"We know in our mind who we want to bring in and who we'd like to remain," said Coyle.

"I told players that they have to the end of the season to show whether they want to be a part of what we're doing, and nothing's changed from that.

"That includes both players in and out of contract.

"I've said before, if I don't feel you're going to play a big part of what we're looking to do then it might be we have to wheel and deal in the summer."
