Jensen keen for new Burnley deal

Brian Jensen

Burnley's Danish keeper Brian Jensen claims that Clarets boss Owen Coyle would like him to stay at Turf Moor.

The Clarets' longest-serving player, 32, is a free agent in the summer and is still to be offered a new contract.

But he is encouraged by preliminary talks with Coyle, admitting: "He wants me to stay and I want to stay. We've been talking for a little while.

"Hopefully we can develop that and I can stay but nothing has been done yet," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

Jensen, who has now been over playing his football in England for more than eight years, has started over 150 games for Burnley since moving to Turf Moor on a free transfer from West Bromwich Albion in 2003.

He has been Burnley's No 1 for most of that time, competing for a place with Danny Coyne for three of his five seasons with the Clarets. And he spent a time on the transfer list last term when then boss Steve Cotterill was at the helm.

Jensen has twice lost his place to Gabor Kiraly this season, but has been back in the team for Burnley's last four games. "I'm settled here," he said. "My family is settled as well and, when the gaffer told me he wanted me to stay, it was a big boost especially after the up and down season I've had.

"My confidence is back and I've got a little bit of a smile now."
