Rovers unveil new training base

Bristol Rovers have confirmed they will move to a new training base in the city at the end of September.

The club has signed a five-year lease with the South Bristol Sports Centre in Brislington, which has been given a £3 million revamp.

"Congratulations to those who have put this together - this is state of the art," Rovers director Geoff Dunford told BBC Radio Bristol.

Rovers have been training at an army base in Colerne, Wiltshire since 2003.

Although the club will share the facility with other groups, they have been given exclusive access to one full size football pitch.

"That exclusive use was crucial to us," first-team coach Paul Trollope added. "We want a good surface to train on and this should be provide it."

"Bristol Rovers needs to be in Bristol and it's good not just for the players but the whole club. Not having to travel means hopefully I can squeeze a few more sessions in for the players."
