Kay signs loan deal at Fleetwood

Matty Kay

Fleetwood Town have signed Blackpool midfielder Matty Kay on a one-month loan deal.

The 19-year-old, Blackpool's youngest ever player, will go straight into the squad for Saturday's Blue Square North game against Stalybridge Celtic.

"He's a very talented midfield player," said Fleetwood manager Micky Mellon.

"He's somebody I've known about for a long time. I was delighted to hear he wanted to play football on a Saturday afternoon instead of reserve matches."

Kay made his Blackpool debut as a substitute aged 16 against Scunthorpe United in November 2005.

Blackpool-born Kay is currently on a two-year contract at Bloomfield Road, featuring regularly for the reserves.

"He's involved with the reserves and trains with the first-team," said former Blackpool player Mellon.

"Matty has the chance to experience first-team football, and Fleetwood fans may get to see a talented youngster where Blackpool will be looking for him to pick-up his game."

Fleetwood have also secured the services of former Tranmere goalkeeper Eric Nixon.

Nixon, who holds the Uefa goalkeeping coaching 'A' license and Uefa football coaching 'A' license, will be the club's goalkeeping coach.
