Roberts in Blackburn deal talks

Blackburn Rovers striker Jason Roberts has revealed that he has opened contract negotiations with the club to extend his stay at Ewood Park.

The 30-year-old Grenada international's current deal with Rovers expires at the end of 2009/10 season.

The former West Brom and Wigan man told BBC Radio Lancashire: "We are having talks at the moment and hopefully something will come from that.

"I'm happy here and willing to work hard for my place." Roberts has had a frustrating time with Blackburn since his move from Wigan in the summer of 2006.

He has made only 22 Premier League starts in his first two seasons with the club, but he started the season under Paul Ince as Rovers' first-choice striker alongside Roque Santa Cruz.

"It's always hard when you're in and out but in modern-day football you have three or four players for each position and it is tough.

"I am always happy when I'm playing but I'm sure all the other players will say that too.

"If the manager and the chairman are happy for me to stay then hopefully we will work something out."
