Keeper Robinson out for two weeks

Paul Robinson

Blackburn goalkeeper Paul Robinson has been ruled out for two weeks after injuring his calf in Rovers' Carling Cup win over Everton.

The 29-year-old will miss this weekend's Premier League match against Newcastle and Rovers' home clash against Manchester United on 4 October.

England's reserve keeper is a doubt for the World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan on 11 October.

He is also unlikely to make England's trip to Belarus four days later.

Robinson, who was on the substitutes' bench for England's 4-1 victory in Croatia on 10 September, was forced off after 12 minutes against Everton on Wednesday.

How do you rate Blackburn's keepers?

He has added to Paul Ince's injury problems ahead of Saturday's match at St James' Park as the Rovers boss is already without David Dunn, Vince Grella, Steven Reid, Aaron Mokoena and Benni McCarthy.

Ince told the club's website: "The doctor rang me and said that Robbo is going to be out (for) a couple of weeks with a pulled calf.

"It is disappointing because he did absolutely fantastic against Fulham, made two world-class saves.

"When he came off I knew something wasn't quite right. He wouldn't come off for nothing, he would only come off if he felt something and obviously that was made transparent the next day."

Robinson was replaced by Jason Brown during the 1-0 win and the Wales international is likely to deputise for the former Tottenham goalkeeper in the forthcoming weeks.

"Brown came on and looked comfortable, I've no qualms about putting him in goal, or Mark Bunn in goal," added Ince.

"At the end of the day Robinson is out for two weeks so they've got to take their chance now."
