Taylor braced for promotion scrap

Maik Taylor

Birmingham City goalkeeper Maik Taylor is expecting a tough battle in this season's Championship promotion race.

The Northern Ireland skipper does not believe it is a three-horse race for the top two positions.

"I don't think the likes of Sheffield United are going to be out of it and Burnley are on a fantastic run at the minute," Taylor told BBC Sport.

"Obviously Wolves and Reading are banging the goals in left, right and centre and in a rich vein of form."

Blues currently lie second in the table despite a mediocre goalscoring record and a run of only one win in four games, leaving Taylor stressing the best is yet to come.

"We're in a fabulous position - we'd have taken that at the start of the season"

"We feel we haven't reached the heights, we haven't reached our potential or played anywhere near what we're capable of yet," he noted.

"We're in a fabulous position, we'd have taken that at the start of the season."

Taylor is captaining Northern Ireland in their friendly international against Hungary before returning for Blues' Friday night trip to Swansea.
