Bruce stays on as Birmingham boss

Birmingham manager Steve Bruce Steve Bruce is to stay on as Birmingham City boss after talks with the club's owners - despite their relegation from the Premiership.

Bruce's future had been in doubt, but Birmingham have decided to keep faith.

A statement on Birmingham's official website said they had their sights set on instant promotion and "Steve is the right man to achieve this ambition".

"The board and the manager will now continue to work relentlessly to bring in the right players."

Owner David Sullivan criticised the team's performances last season, and former defender Kenny Cunningham delivered a savage attack on Bruce's methods after he was released by the club.

But chairman David Gold has been a constant supporter of Bruce, who will now get the chance to take the St Andrew's club back into the top-flight.
