Barnsley goalkeeper Heinz Muller has joined Bundesliga club FSV Mainz 05 in a £600,000 transfer.
The 31-year-old German keeper joined Barnsley for £150,000 from Norwegian club Lillestrom in August 2007.
He enjoyed an impressive start to his Barnsley career, but then suffered a serious knee injury later that season and lost his place to Luke Steele.
"It's a good deal for the club and for the player and we wish him well," said Barnsley manager Simon Davey.
"Heinz has been given the opportunity to play in the German top flight and it was the right deal for Barnsley," he added on the Barnsley website.
Mainz won promotion to the Bundesliga last season.
606: DEBATEMuller made 69 first-team appearances for Barnsley during his two years with the club.
Meanwhile the Tykes have signed former York City striker Onome Sodje on a one-year contract.
The 20-year-old began his career at Charlton Athletic before moving on to Ebbsfleet United, he joined York in June 2007 and made 81 league appearances, scoring 22 goals.
Davey told the club's website: "Onome is one for the future and a player we are looking forward to working with at Oakwell.
"He is lightening quick with an eye for goal and is someone we feel we can improve and develop."
