Morgan backed by Blades manager

Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell has defended captain Chris Morgan after the incident which left Barnsley's Iain Hume with a fractured skull.

Blackwell told the Sheffield Star: "Chris is a great leader, a great skipper and a first-class lad too. We know it and they know it at Barnsley."

BBC Radio Sheffield understands that Barnsley have sent their evidence on the clash to the Football Association.

Meanwhile Hume hopes to leave a Manchester hospital by Tuesday evening.

The Canadian International has been in hospital since undergoing an emergency operation on 9 November.

Hume's agent Mick Walsh told BBC Radio Sheffield: "He's feeling better and we want him to get back to being with his family and being with his daughter that he's missed and get him back to family life."

Morgan was booked by match referee Andy D'Urso for the challenge, however the FA could see it as an exceptional case which would give them leverage to hand out further punishment if deemed necessary.

Barnsley sent their dossier to the FA following a meeting between the club, their legal representative and the representatives of Hume.
