Barnet sign ex-QPR stopper Cole

Jake Cole

Barnet have signed goalkeeper Jake Cole on a one-year deal after impressing at Underhill last season on loan from Queens Park Rangers.

Cole, who played 10 League Two games for the Bees, was released by QPR when his contract expired last month.

But he has now signed a one-year deal including a further 12-month option.

And Barnet boss Ian Hendon believes that 23-year-old, six foot two Cole has the potential to play at a higher level than League Two.

"I'm delighted to have Jake," he told BBC London 94.9. "Since he came on loan at the end of last year I've been into him trying to get him to sign, but it's taken this long to get him signed.

"Potentially I think Jake could return to the Championship but it will probably do him the world of good to have a season or two at Barnet playing full time.

"I'm sure one day he'll be back playing at whatever level he wants. He's got the ability and it's now down to him to show people what he can do."

Hendon intends to play only trialists (25 of them turned up for pre-season training on Monday) in the friendly against Grays Athletic on Wednesday. And he also revealed that he is looking to add more new signings before the new season.

"I've got a few players in my sights which I'm keeping close to my chest obviously," he said. "We'll probably add another four or five.

"I pretty much know who I'm after but there's a lot of trialists coming in and a few of those lads have shone in training so it makes it very interesting."
