Magpies recall Milner from Villa

James Milner Newcastle have recalled James Milner from talks with Aston Villa.

United refused to reveal to BBC Sport whether a potential move to Villa Park had collapsed.

The winger was set to join Martin O'Neill's side in a deal said to be worth £4m after travelling down on Thursday for discussions.

The Magpies gave Villa permission to speak to the 20-year-old, who spent last season on loan at the West Midlands club.

England Under-21 international Milner was one of the few success stories for Villa in a season of underachievement and became a popular figure with supporters.

He played 33 times for the club in 2005-06 and scored three times - including on his home debut against Tottenham.

Milner returned to Villa Park on Sunday as part of the Newcastle side beaten 2-0 by O'Neill's side.
