Cameroon star makes Arsenal claim

Jean Makoun Lille midfielder Jean Makoun has claimed Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been in contact with him regarding a move to the Emirates Stadium.

"Arsenal are a possibility," said the 23-year-old Cameroon international.

"I know their scouts have come to see me play several times and I have had a phone call from Arsene Wenger, too.

Makoun is also adamant that Manchester United are interested in signing him: "They were in touch last year and I know they are still interested."

The midfielder has made over 100 appearances for Lille since 2001.

He was also part of Cameroon's 2004 African Cup of Nations team, that finished top of their first-round group.
