Howell is ready for League return

Aldershot Town

New Aldershot signing Dean Howell says he is looking forward to relaunching his football league career.

The 26-year-old defensive midfielder has failed to secure a regular starting place at a number of league clubs.

He told BBC Southern Counties Radio: "I had quite a few injuries at Colchester. I was just 19 at Crewe, and only 16 at Notts County, under Sam Allardyce.

"I think players develop at different stages, with their strength and fitness. I'm getting the benefits now."

He added: "You also mature mentally. All I need now is a run of games, not a start here and a sub appearance there.

"Hopefully under Gary Waddock I'll get that. He's shown faith in me, so I should get my chance and I hope to take it."

For Howell, it is also a reunion with striker John Grant and defender Antony Charles.

"We were all trying to break through at Crewe together," Howell added. "I used to room with Charles, and he's a good friend. Its great to be back together."

Howell is also confident the club will be fine in League Two.

He said: "The Conference is hard to win, and the success they've had passing the 100-point barrier, it reminds me of Yeovil Town.

"The boss also says he intends to bring in more players and add strength and competition to the squad."
