Stop turns

Stop turn

Imagine you're a car. You need to have a great accelerator and superb brakes.

It's all about running at full pace and trying to keep the ball in play before it runs over the touchline.

And then you make that magical turn.

Just place one foot on top of the ball to halt its path.

Then stop your run as quickly as possible and, using your planted foot to pivot and push off with, turn your body.

Use your other foot to push the ball out in front of you and move away quickly - as you hopefully watch the defender carry on in the opposite direction.

If the defender is close behind you, however, you may concede possession - so this turn is best used at pace and with a bit of space.
