Arbroath 2-1 Elgin City

Elgin City manager Brian Irvine Defeat by Arbroath meant Elgin City became the first club in Britain to play all the others in their division without winning a single point.

Elgin goalkeeper Keiron Renton had already denied Marc McCulloch with a great save before Steven Rennie headed home a Jay Stein corner.

But, a minute later, Martin Johnston evaded Ian Dobbins and crashed a low left-footed shot past Mark Peat.

Elgin's Adam Moffatt hit a post before Alan Brazil slotted Arbroath's winner.

City had made a late run that almost led to a place in the promotion play-offs from Division Three after Brian Irvine took charge of the team last term.

And the manager had expressed his astonishment before the game that his side had slumped this season.

"I have an excellent chairman who is very supportive"
Elgin manager Brian Irvine

"The boys have been working hard and have lost most of the games narrowly," he told BBC Sport.

"It is a record we do not want and we used that as a motivation tool in our build up.

"The amazing thing is that it is virtually the same team as last season as I got most of them re-signed.

"They don't become bad players overnight."

The former Aberdeen defender was determined to turn things around.

"I'm not a quitter and personal pride comes into it," he said.

"Fortunately, I have an excellent chairman who is very supportive."
