Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was delighted his side overcame Arsenal 2-1 to win the Carling Cup but was upset by the late fracas between the sides.
"It was a pity that happened," the Blues boss told BBC Five Live Sport.
"I do understand it's emotional and I understand how the players are feeling. Arsenal were losing the final so I think their emotions took over.
"It was a great game between two teams with two different styles but history will show we have taken the cup home."
The unsavoury events on the pitch appeared to be sparked by an altercation between Arsenal's Kolo Toure and Chelsea's Mikel John Obi.

They were both dismissed by referee Howard Webb, along with another Arsenal player, substitute Emmanuel Adebayor, who seemed incensed by the decision.
There was more drama earlier in the second half when Chelsea captain John Terry was carried off following an accidental boot in the face from Abou Diaby.
Chelsea's two-goal Carling Cup final hero Didier Drogba was left subdued by the incident.
"I'm very happy but I'm thinking about John," he said.

"We've had some news that he's feeling a bit better. I was near him when it happened and it looked terrible."
Team-mate Frank Lampard paid tribute to Drogba for his heroics.
"He does it week in, week out and on the big occasions," he said.
Of the incident at the end he said: "I came in to try to sort it out and ended up getting involved.
"People might say it's disappointing, but when you play a cup final at this level that incident showed how much players wanted to win it."
