Germany U21 3-0 N Ireland U21

Northern Ireland U21 manager Steve Beaglehole

Northern Ireland's hopes of qualifying for the U21 European Championship ended after a qualifier defeat in Wuppertal.

Bayern Munich teenage midfielder Toni Kroos scored the opener on 11 minutes with a superb 20-yard free-kick.

Daniel Halfar made it 2-0 in the 38th minute after Trevor Carson failed to hold a Kroos strike.

N Ireland had to win to have any chance of making the play-offs but Dennis Aogo added a third for the Germans on the hour with a long-range effort.
