Former Glenavon front man Marty Verner snatched a late goal at Mourneview to make Premiership new boys Bangor the unlikely early-season pacesetters.
Verner nipped in to poke the ball past Robert Robinson in the 85th muinute after Noel Anderson had played it across the face of goal.
Bangor had soaked up a lot of Glenavon pressure with Andrew Plummer making an excellent early save from Conor Walsh.
Striker Tony Grant then saw his effort graze the Bangor crossbar.
Bangor manager Marty Quinn lauded his players' display but he acknowledged that it is "early days" in the campaign.
"It's a great start for us winning the two games," said Quinn.
"We're top of the league and what more could you ask for but we're not kidding ourselves. It's going to be a long hard season.
"But if the lads play as well and with as much determination as tonight, then they might surprise a few people.
"It was a very dogged performance tonight. We matched Glenavon in all areas and we were stronger and more determined.
"We played with a lot of aggression and fire in our bellies."
Quinn paid particular praise to goalkeeper Andrew Plummer, who had produced a composed display.
"Let's not forget that he's only 18. I thought he played with so much maturity tonight.
"He handled everything that came into the box and he was aided and abetted by his back-four who were absolutely fantastic."
