Clarke catches eye of Sheff Utd
Newry City skipper Richard Clarke has been included in the Sheffield United squad for Saturday's friendly against Portadown at Shamrock Park.
Clarke caught the eye of boss Bryan Robson when he scored for Newry against the Championship side last week.
The 22-year-old midfielder is currently on a week-long trial with League Two side Bury.
"It's nice to be involved with such a big club," said Clarke. "Hopefully I can get on the pitch."
The Northern Ireland U21 international also came under the gaze of Rangers, Gillingham and Glentoran.
City boss Gerry Flynn said Newry would not stand in Clarke's way if he got the chance of a cross-channel move.
Sheffield United are also interested in signing Trinidad & Tobago international goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams, reports BBC Radio Sheffield.
The deal is subject to the player securing a work permit.
