Betting suspended on league games

Carnegie Premier League One of Northern Ireland's leading bookmaking firms suspended betting on three Carnegie League matches on Saturday afternoon.

Sean Graham removed the Cliftonville v Armagh, Glenavon v Limavady and Larne v Portadown fixtures from their list.

"Only small bets were involved but there was a certain popular bet and we felt there was a risk with Irish football," said a spokesperson.

On Thursday the Irish FA announced an inquiry into alleged match fixing.

The investigation concerned Glenavon's 4-0 win over Armagh City with both clubs refuting the allegations.

"We have to be seen as a governing body to be taking matters like this very seriously," said IFA chief executive Howard Wells.

"We gather there is information out there that would be of interest to us."
