Scotland seek new shirt sponsor

Scotland captain Stephen McManus

The Scottish Football Association is seeking a new kit supplier for the national side after manufacturer Diadora went into liquidation.

The Italian company's deal runs until 2010 and Scotland will wear the Diadora shirts until the end of the World Cup qualifying campaign.

SFA spokesman Rob Shorthouse told BBC Scotland it was already in talks with potential new sponsors.

Diadora has paid its £1m annual contract up to the end of this year.

Shorthouse said: "Obviously, we've been made aware that Diadora UK has gone into receivership.

"We have an agreement with Diadora that takes us through to the end of the World Cup campaign, so Scotland will still play the next few games in the current home kit."

"We're in a good position - Scotland fans are extremely loyal to their national team and buy the shirts in huge numbers"

The SFA has already met other potential sponsors about a new deal, Shorthouse added.

"We're in a good position because Scotland fans are extremely loyal to their national team and buy the shirts in huge numbers.

"We're an attractive proposition to other companies and are very confident this will be sorted out.

"It's a shame for the guys at Diadora, who have been great partners with us over the past six years."
