McCartney out of N Ireland games
George McCartney has been ruled out of Northern Ireland's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Denmark and Spain.
McCartney suffered an ankle injury in West Ham's Premier League game against Derby on Saturday and a scan on Monday revealed ligament damage.
"I definitely won't make the two Northern Ireland games," McCartney told BBC Sport.
Northern Ireland face Denmark in Belfast on Saturday before taking on Spain in Las Palmas four days later.
Euro 2008 permutations
McCartney's withdrawal could open the door for Manchester United's Jonny Evans to be recalled.
He was surprinsgly left out when boss Nigel Worthington named his original panel for Saturday's home meeting with Denmark and the match away to Spain four days later.
